Golf Almerimar golf course has wide fairways surrounded by lush vegetation which increases the difficulty to approach the green. Well positioned bunkers and water hazards provide variety to this fine course. Opened in 1976, the course was originally designed by Gary Player and Ron Kirby and then expanded a few years ago. It is a beautiful place because of its lakes and palm trees all around the course. Almerimar Golf belongs to AR Almerimar Hotel. It has wide tree-lined fairways and large greens that are well maintained and fast to play on. There are water hazards on several holes. The 164 meter long par 3 hole no. 12 is a real challenge because of its 130 meters’ carry over water. The lush vegetation and palm trees all provide a pleasant oasis-like feel to the course with glimpses of surrounding spectacular beauty.

All 27 holes were reopened on December 20th, 2007 after a complete renovation that started
in 2005. Improvements included a new irrigation system, new lake at tee 1, improved tees and
fairways. Also the greens were renewed and increased in size. Some bunkers have been renewed
and some have been expanded. There are new bunkers on holes 5 and 7. Some tees have become elevated, some
holes have been extended and training area has been improved.

Facilities include: pitch and putting green, driving range, restaurant, parking, changing rooms, showers, pro shop, instructor, trollies, carts, club rentals and more.

Other in Almerimar Sailing: The excellent climate allows sailing all year round. For beginners or those who are looking to start/begin sailing, there is a sailing school where all necessary equipment and instructions are provided.

Windsurfing: Although this and kite-surfing are relatively new sports in Almerimar, their popularity has rapidly increased and there are courses with experienced teachers.

Diving: Those who enjoy diving will find crystal clear waters and underwater landscapes of special beauty. It makes Almerimar an ideal place to participate in this sport. For those who want to learn about this sport, there is also a diving school.

Horse Riding: There are two stables that both offer various tours and beach walks with horses. There are also instructions for those who are yet beginners.

Beaches: Beaches extend to both east and west of the harbor. The beaches (that have been awarded the Blue Flag certification) are well-maintained and, during the summer they are cleaned on a daily basis and lifeguards are on duty. There are plenty of fresh water showers and toilets.
Many sports and other facilities are available on the beach including kite flying, beach volley, football, paddle boats, water scooters, not to mention all the beach bars.
During high season, the municipality organizes many sporting events on the beach including soccer and beach volleyball tournaments. A pentathlon is also held annually.

Fishing: The variety of fish caught locally is quite extensive and many hobby fishermen keep their boats moored in the marina. Many people also fish at the beaches and breakwaters in the harbor.

Birdwatching: The natural park of Punta Entinas, a large area of salt marsh east of Almerimar, is famous for flamingos, ducks and gulls that inhabit this area.
Just 5 kilometers from Almerimar is the lively old town of El Ejido, currently enjoying one of the highest per capita incomes in Andalucia, still holds its market every Wednesday and sticks to its old traditions. It is a city of contrasts where, just around the corner from the finest and newest, is the typical shaded and beautifully tiled “Patio Andaluz”.
Located between Almerimar and the El Ejido is one of the largest shopping centers in the province, including a supermarket, several fast food restaurants, movie theaters, and dozens of shops of all kinds. Near to this shopping center is a newly built hospital with the newest equipment. There is a bus every half an hour. A few kilometers further up is the Spain’s most famous department store chain El Corte Ingles.

Sightseeing: One of the more unusual tours you can take is to visit one of the local greenhouses and learn all about the methods used to cultivate the different products. There are also many other, more conventional attractions to visit in the area.

Skiing: Almerimar is only two hours-drive from the snow in Sierra Nevada, one of the best ski resorts in Europe.
